About Us We are proud to be preservation breeders of Siberian Huskies, promoting and preserving all aspects of this wonderful breed for the future.
I grew up with an Alaskan Malamute as a family pet and when she passed away I adopted a Siberian Husky from a research study at my school. I was able to get her AKC registration papers and she eventually became U-CD C.J. of the Northern Lights, Am/Can/States CD. Because she was a kennel dog for the first two years of her life, I took her to obedience classes. She was an apt pupil and we were encouraged to go on. That started my love of obedience and C.J.’s typical Siberian joy of life and sense of humor kindled my love of the breed. Charlie fell in love with the Newfoundland breed in college also. A fraternity brother had a Newfoundland and that started his love of the breed. After graduating and getting a job Charlie quickly acquired his first Newfoundland, who was to become Can CH Black Shadow’s Thor, Am/Can CD. A few years after graduating, I met my husband through a mutual friend and through dog school. He married into my Siberians and I married into his Newfoundlands. We love watching our dogs perform the jobs they were bred and born to do. Next to their companionship, performance events are our favorite part of owning our dogs. Our dogs are shown in conformation but they are also active in obedience, rally, recreational dog sledding, and backpacking. We have also done draft work, water work and tracking with the Newfoundlands. Our sons have also been active with our dogs. Our older son, Ryan, was involved in Junior Showmanship and shows our dogs in the breed ring, and our younger son, Eric, has shown in rally obedience. Ryan was awarded the SHCA's Top Scoring Junior Handler Award for 2013. Both sons have enjoyed running our dogs with the sled. Ryan is now an AKC Junior Showmanship judge. We breed on a limited basis, planning a litter when we feel we want to add a dog to our kennel. Even though we are more performance oriented our goal is always to breed to the breed standard. Each breeding is planned with the intent of improving our line and the breed as well. All our dogs, whether breeding or not, are screened for eyes, hips, and thyroid, and any other genetic diseases appropriate for the breed. Our puppies are raised in a family setting with lots of socialization to provide a foundation for good temperaments. Puppies are dewormed a minimum of three times, vaccinated and microchipped and go with a health guarantee, collar and leash, and a bag of puppy food. Information on Merle, Brindle and “Miniature” Siberian Huskies SHCA policy statements on merle, brindle and miniature Siberian Huskies: The SHCA strongly believes that merle and brindle patterning are NOT genetically possible in a purebred Siberian Husky, and are only possible due to impure breeding. As such, the Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc. strongly discourages anyone from purchasing a merle or brindle Siberian Husky. Miniature Siberian Huskies are not a breed or variety of Siberian Huskies and as such are not recognized by the SHCA or the AKC. The SHCA and its members strive to protect and promote the working abilities of the breed as described in the official AKC breed standard which states: "Height: Dogs, 21 to 23 1/2 inches at the withers, Bitches: 20 to 22 inches at the withers". The SHCA and AKC recognize that this height requirement depicts a functional working sled dog which can still perform its original purpose for which the breed was developed. Any significant deviation from these height requirements cannot function as a proper working sled dog and thus cannot be deemed a correct Siberian Husky. For those who prefer a small breed dog, please consider one of the smaller AKC recognized breeds. |
